The Bremont U-2 range was originally created for the elite Spy Plan Squadron in California. Enduring extreme conditions of up to 80,000 feet on missions lasting for up to a gruelling 12 hours. Each watch in the U-2 collection has also been placed through rigorous testing, withstanding pressures of 100,000 feet and surviving unthinkably low conditions of -50oC. The Bremont U-2 proves to be as elite as the Squadrons for whom the watch was purpose built.
2018 will see the release of a new commemorative edition Bremont U-2. Honouring the centenary of the first night bombing unit, the RAF’s 100 Squadron, Bremont have created the U-2/51-JET. Inspiration from their famous Hawk T1 Jet flows through this admirable, dark timepiece.
Bremont have added a new DLC (Diamond-like carbon) coated steel Trip-Tick® case and black middle barrel to the watch. The casing is sized at 43mm and features an inner bidirectional Roto-Click® bezel, controlled by the large crown placed at the 4 o’clock position. Large Blue steel hands and Arabic numeral hour markers are coated in Super-LumiNova®, aiding in legibility through the black smoked glass. Unlike previous U-2 models, the U-2/51-JET only features a date aperture, rather than a day-date display. Finished on the Calf-skin leather strap, lined with rubber for additional durability and completing the blackened theme.
Powered by the Modified calibre 11 1/2’’’ BE-36AE automatic chronometer, beating at 28,800 per hour. This supplies the Bremont U-2/51-JET with an impressive power reserve of 38 hours.
